Move to Calgary & the birth of For Porter

In early 2023, I embarked on an exciting journey with "For Porter." After making the big move out west to Calgary, it was time to start fresh and with that my new company was formed. Creating a spaces where I could create, podcast, document everything that I am doing has been my main goal. Under the design umbrella my biggest focus has been to create spaces that feel authentic and like extensions of my clients personalities.

Fast forward to today, I have two projects underway and I have never felt more invigorated. After a brief hiatus to focus on our home, it feels incredibly rewarding to be back doing what I love: uplifting clients’ lives through design.

Client Bauer Farmhouse is a 1977 mid-century country home on sprawling farmland in Torrington, AB. The property having weathered 4 generations of Bauer farmers. Culturally it is such an incredible lifestyle to observe and consider when making design decisions. I have actually worked on another farmhouse outside of Collingwood, On and in the process learned of how important it is when considering certain materials. My clients lives have had a hybrid lifestyle up until recently travelling to and from Calgary and so incorporating their flare for city life is also essential and tip of mind to balance city life in a rural setting.

As we progress, I will share insights into this project, the design process, the challenges we encounter, and the transformation itself. I am thrilled about the stunning metamorphosis we're about to witness.

Client Villages, takes us on a different journey in Florida. A young couple in a retirement community (purchased during the pandemic to be closer to family) seeks to transform one of their vacation properties into a welcoming retreat for family gatherings. We'll be using wall treatments, paint, beautiful lighting, and window coverings to turn a generic space into a sanctuary.

I will share what important steps you must take to ensure a streamline process for a remote client as well as how I use the surroundings as influencing design maps.

The establishment of For Porter feels like a significant milestone in our journey westward. With new friendships forged and personal growth experienced, the sky's the limit for our business. I invite you to join me week after week as I share updates on our exciting ventures.
